Hello! I’m Fang Fang, an experience designer with over 10 years of experience working across digital products and public-facing environments. I enjoy understanding people in context and turning complex systems into experiences that feel clear, accessible, and meaningful.

I started my career in journalism, working with organizations like Southern Metropolis Daily and Hunan Broadcasting System. During that time, I interviewed people from very different backgrounds, which helped me build a strong sense of empathy and a habit of really listening to how people think and what they need.

Overall, I bring a research-driven and human-centered approach to both product and service work, and I care a lot about improving how people experience systems in different real-world environments.

A bit more about me:

Outside of work, I spend most of my time outdoors — skiing, trail running, hiking, and cycling. I’m especially into ultra-distance trail running and have completed multiple 50K races.

I also have a dog, Woolly, who’s usually part of my adventures.

My work later expanded into UX research, product design, and information science (I hold an ALA-accredited Master of Information). I’ve worked on projects in education and AI-driven systems, partnering with learners, educators, and cross-functional teams to improve how people access and use information.

Beyond digital products, I’m very interested in service and community-facing experiences. I’ve worked in art galleries, supported cultural events, and currently work as a ski patroller, where I provide frontline support and respond to real-time situations. These experiences made me more aware of how people actually feel and behave in real environments, especially when things are uncertain or stressful.

  • Research Scientist

“I worked with Fang Fang in the AI Labs at ETS, where I collaborated with her on creating technology-supported educational solutions for language learning. Fang was a valued, well-respected, and well-liked team member, and I greatly enjoyed working with her. I was consistently impressed with her UX design work, which seemed to always be at a high level of quality (she has a real talent for creating engaging and aesthetically attractive user experiences). Fang is also a hard worker and always completed her work in a timely way, often under challenging time constraints and quick deadlines. In addition, Fang could be consistently relied on to support our team and assist other colleagues with work that wasn't strictly her responsibility. And Fang was always very nice to work with - always pleasant and positive - everyone on the team liked her. Fang was an exemplary UX researcher/designer and colleague and an enormously valuable member of our team.”

  • Software engineer

“Working with Fang is such a happy and rewarding experience. As a software developer, I had no obstacle understanding her design and requirements - she’s not only strong in providing helpful clarifications and highlights right to the point, but also good at communicating with people from different backgrounds. Moreover, Fang was definitely among the best ones in understanding our users. She’s very passionate about digging into the users’ needs (the spoken ones, as well as the unspoken parts), and she always shared her findings with the team in a fashion that was straightforward enough for us to see “how” and “why”, which boosted our teamwork and collaboration.

With her insights and leadership, the whole team was empowered to polish our products with clear targets and scope, and to turn the insights and findings into revenue.

For me, Fang is a strong, passionate UX designer, an awesome person to work with, and a great friend who nourishes my growth.”

  • Content Designer

“I had the pleasure of working with Fang for a few years at ETS in different teams and was consistently impressed by Fang's design skills and her interpersonal skills. As an instructional designer, Fang and I worked very closely together across numerous projects. We partnered on developing designs and copy for our products and led the team together in design-thinking workshops and activities. I always felt that Fang was a great team player, easy to work with and open to feedback. Fang has a positive attitude and a great work ethic and her designs were always very visually appealing and intuitive. She was a well-respected team member who used her design skills and UX expertise to help ensure the team followed a user-centered approach to designs. Fang was also always willing to help out her team members to meet critical deadlines and support tasks when they needed it. She is a true team player, a great person to work with, and a talented product designer!”

  • UX Specialist

“I had the privilege to work with Fang when we were both working for ETS Foundry, an innovation incubator at our organization. Our team consists of a bunch of overachievers, and Fang is definitely one of them. Upon onboarding, Fang demonstrated great passion into learning about the AI products we were working on despite their daunting complexity and functionality. She established good relationships with the cross-functional team members (design, research, engineering, product) pretty quickly, therefore started to make meaningful contributions at a light speed. I am also impressed by her creativity and diligence, when she always came up with multiple design solutions and justifications when the team was exploring new product features.

Fang is also a designer who has a deep belief in user research and iterations. During the past two years, her UX research skills also grew significantly. She leveraged that to inform, iterate, and inspire her own design effectively. Fang is an absolute pleasure to work with. She is supportive, dedicated, knowledgeable, and an invaluable UX designer for any team who would be lucky to have her!”

  • UX Researcher

“Throughout the two years we worked together at the incubator team at ETS, Fang took lead in designing multiple innovative ed-tech products, where I supported her as a UX researcher. I had seen her took initiatives in setting up design roadmaps, collaborating with research (and often conducting sessions when necessary with very limited resources), and using iterative design to inform her design. I also saw that she worked with engineers closely to discuss design handoffs and troubleshoot. Her work ethic and passion for great design have always motivated me as a researcher!”

  • UX Designer

“Fang has a sharp eye for design and a strong understanding of user experience design principles. We worked together as co-designers on a learning platform for English language learners in India, and she was instrumental in our team's being able to design a lot in a short timeframe. She is great at thinking beyond requirements and looking for ways to engage and delight users, as well as considering the needs for developer handoff and always collaborating and discussing ways we can improve our processes. I've also had the pleasure of observing Fang facilitating user research sessions and found her to be skilled at building rapport and asking effective follow-up questions, in addition to assisting with synthesis and discussing key insights. Fang has a well-rounded skillset and will be an asset to your team!”
